Yeeeee!: My Take on Commitment →
Commitment.
What is it really? The dictionary definition would say:
1. the act of committing or pledging
2. the state of being committed or pledged
3. an obligation, promise, etc that restricts one’s freedom of action
It seems pretty clear to me that commitment is definitely something we can all understand, whether it’s a commitment to a hobby; such as dance, or a commitment to your significant other, the understanding of commitment does not change. It is first and foremost, a promise.
When two lovers join together they promise one another many things, and these promises are what make their relationship so admirable and strong. Many of us take it for granted when we have that special someone that we commit ourselves too. We sometimes do not even understand what it is that we are committing, but always know why we commit to do what it is that we do. Love. Love in all of its true beauty, there is deep mystery. Love is all aspects of every emotion; happiness, pain, sadness, including the drive and desire to continue experiencing every emotion. So we as humans, try our luck on love with those whom we deem worthy to us. Because it is worth the sacrifice. Worth the commitment. Understanding that love really is your commitment to one another is a must. For if you are not committed, then there is truly no love there. Love and commitment go hand in hand, as you and your lover do. There is no one or the other, there is no one without the other.
The commitment we make with one another is how our love will go and how our lives together will grow. Commitment is a promise; a promise to sacrifice for one another what you would never sacrifice for anyone else. We must let go of some things for our love. We must commit ourselves to doing what we can for one another. And we must allow each other to understand our commitments, so that we may in turn understand our love. So if you are not truly committed to your lover…how can you call them your lover? If you do not honestly promise your partner the sacrifice…how can you honestly say that you are in love?
Deep.
